EXPERIENCE YOUR GOOD NOW!
Learning to Use Affirmations
There is always cause for rejoicing when we are gifted with another book by Louise L. Hay, founder of Hay House, metaphysical lecturer and author of the international bestseller “You Can Heal Your Life”.
Now comes this precious little volume “Experience Your Good Now - Learning to Use Affirmations” that has huge impact and really shook me up.
Something that has been with me a long time, but I never really paid attention to, is the use of affirmations. Sure I know to say things like “I am willing to forgive” but it didn’t really stick and probably didn’t mean it either! So when I began reading this book, I snuggled up with my blanket and tea and started reading it with that kind of thinking. Next thing I know, I have a journal going and a huge box of tissues. Why? Because for the first time on my spiritual journey, I understood why these affirmations were important and the reasons behind the pain and baggage we carry needlessly.
In this little book, I saw myself as I am and I saw the way I wish to be. By choosing to use the tools in this book, the healing we so need is at our finger tips. The chapters range from “Affirmations for Health” to “Affirmations for Fearful Emotions”, For Addictions, For Money and Prosperity, pretty well everything that encompasses the rocky journey of most human experiences. The exercises/questions are precise and some will make you squirm. Looking inside and being honest is tough at times. The most difficult for me was the mirror exercises. Looking at yourself in the mirror and telling ME that I love ME was daunting and uncomfortable. Louise Hay herself expresses how she needed those tissues when she did the mirror exercises. Accepting yourself is tough enough but actually seeing yourself for the first time is heart wrenching. It’s amazing how we look at ourselves in that mirror every day, to do our hair just right, our make-up perfect and we tell ourselves we look just awesome. But when you have to look at yourself in that same mirror, for the purpose of identifying the REAL you, well that doesn’t feel so awesome any more. For the longest time I could not look at myself in that mirror. It was just too painful. But Louise’s wisdom and words struck such a chord in me that I felt I had no choice but to let go and to learn to love me. It’s that powerful.
Some of the questions in the chapter “Affirmations for Critical Thinking” are as follow. As you read this, it is difficult to not feel some stirring deep within you because most of us have lived this.
-
What was your family pattern?
-
What did you learn about criticism from your mother?
-
What were the things she criticized?
Further in the chapter the questions are:
-
What was the pattern of anger in your family?
-
What did your father do with his anger?
-
What did your mother do with her anger?
Tough stuff to answer for many of us. When you’ve walked through the pain, answered honestly, looked at things with new eyes, then come the affirmations.
I appreciate the wonder of my body.
All of my emotions are acceptable.
I comfort my inner child and we are safe.
My parents treated me in the way they had been treated. I forgive them-and their parents too.
Most of all forgiving YOU is the most precious gift you can give yourself.
Like soothing balm on your wounds, affirmations suddenly make sense and their purpose becomes clear and the steps get easier and the load gets lighter.
As you journal and answer the questions posed in this book, you suddenly realize the scope of your being, how things in the past have not always shaped you for the best, how the present views we hold impede our progress but by stopping and really looking at the whole of our life, saying yes to changing it, we can attain an amazing future.
Louise Hay’s insights and wisdom in “Experience Your Good Now - Learning to Use Affirmations” are invaluable tools on your journey. The book comes with a wonderful cd that you can just lay back and listen to, day or night, to continue the healing affirmations.
As always, the answers lie within us. We can if we really want it.

I have the great pleasure and honor to review “The Shift” the latest book by Dr.Wayne Dyer.
What can I possibly say about Dr. Dyer that hasn’t been said before? What most people know is that he is an internationally renowned author of more than 30 books in the field of self-development. Those who have read his books know that he is down to earth, straight forward and often his work are the keys to many answers. He writes for you and me, making it easy for those of us who need to know all these things in plain English.
“The Shift” is one of those books that I think is a must read. Having read many books by Dr. Dyer and others, I feel this is the one book that truly opened my eyes. A companion book to the film of the same name, “The Shift” is an easy read, a small book with only four chapters, named From, Ambition, To, Meaning and does just that - teaches you how to take your life From Ambition To Meaning
Consciously making the shift from our ego driven life to a life of meaning is one of those quantum moments that we don’t have enough of. Dr. Dyer eloquently talks of the need to return to our source, God, Tao, to what we are, the pain of holding ourselves separate from everything, and how easy it really is to make that shift, to oneness, to a meaningful life if one really wants to.
Using a quote form Carl Jung, Dr. Dyer almost poetically describes our spiritual journey from the morning of our life, where we are taught that ego and ambition rule everything to the afternoon of our life, where we begin our journey to a more authentic self until we come home to the evening of our life. It is truly a beautiful and deep perspective to contemplate.
To understand for the first time where we come from, who we are and written in a way that makes sense, is invaluable.
Chapter One : From - Describes where we come from, how we come from nothing yet we are a piece of the Divine God, our source.
Chapter Two: Ambiton - Allows us to understand the six lies our ego needs us to believe to continue on our path to ambition.
1) Who I am is what I have
2) Who I am is what I do
3) Who I am is what others think of me
4) I am separate from everyone else
5) I am separate from what’s missing in my life
6) I am separate from God
Chapter Three: To - Shows us how to do a U-turn and make our way to our authentic selves. It is interesting to read how peoples’ values changed once they made the shift and/or experienced quantum moments. Quantum moments are events that occur in your life that are surprising, vivid, benevolent and most of all enduring.
Chapter Four: Meaning - The lesson here is not to ask what others think you should be but what YOU need to be and to be alive to your calling or purpose. Become you, the real you…
In my opinion, if you read only one book this year, make it this one.
